Albert "Butch" ArenalChief of Police

Chief Arenal was sworn in as Chief of Police on October 5, 2015. He began his career at Punta Gorda Police Department as a Police Officer in 1987 and climbed to the rank of Chief of Police in 2008. He was sworn in as the President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) in July 2016. FPCA is the 3rd largest Police Chiefs organization in the United States. Chief Arenal attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, Edison College, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Hodges University.

Camacho Jeannette

Jeannette Camacho Police Legal Advisor

Jeannette Camacho started with the Coconut Creek Police Department on November 21, 2011. Ms. Camacho graduated from the University of Florida Law School in 1994. She was first licensed to practice law in the State of Florida in 1994. She began her career with the State Attorney's Office 9th Judicial Circuit, covering Orlando and Osceola counties. As an assistant state attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit (Broward County), Jeannette litigated all types of criminal cases and supervised several assistant state attorneys.

Captain Fred Hofer
Special Operations Division Commander

Captain Hofer has been a law enforcement officer since 1997. He started his career with the Coconut Creek Police Department as an EMT firefighter and was cross certified as a police officer. During his tenure with the Coconut Creek Police Department he has held the positions of patrol officer, field training officer, bicycle patrol officer, Special Enforcement Team detective, training officer, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team officer, SWAT sniper, SWAT team leader, SWAT executive officer, sergeant, detective sergeant, K-9 and Training supervisor. Fred was promoted in June of 2016 to lieutenant where he commanded the Special Enforcement Team, Employee Development, and the SWAT Team. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in December 2018. Captain Hofer is a graduate of the Southern Police Institutes 75th Command Officer Development School, and the FBI National Academy.

Sergeant Don Davis
Traffic Unit Supervisor

Sergeant Donald Davis is from LaBelle, Florida where he graduated high school.  He attained his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University in Miami Florida.

Sergeant Davis started his Law Enforcement career at the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections Officer and then transferred to the Law Enforcement services division where he served in many capacities including, Field Training Deputy, Corporal, Detective, and Road Patrol Sergeant, as well as serving on the SWAT team.

Sergeant Davis proudly joined the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2016 and has served in the road patrol division as a Police Officer and Field Training Officer before being chosen for the Traffic Unit as a motorcycle Officer, and traffic homicide investigator.

Sergeant Barbara HendrickxCommunity Services Supervisor

Barbara became a police officer for the City of Coconut Creek Police Department in 2013. During her first five years as an officer, she was the Bike Patrol Officer representative on her team as well as a Field Training Officer. In March 2018, Barb was transferred into the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) as a Detective. Barb currently is a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, the department’s Recruitment Team, and proudly serves as one of the founding members and is an instructor for the Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange program. In August 2018, she was promoted to the Sergeant over the Community Services Unit (CSU). 

Sergeant Hendrickx holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institutes 88th Command Officer Development School.

Sergeant Dan EberlySchool Resource Officers' Supervisor

A native of Miramar, Sergeant Eberly joined the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2000 as a Community Service Aide. A year later he was hired as a police officer recruit and graduated from the Broward County Police Academy in the spring of 2002. He has extensive experience as a patrol officer, a field training officer, and training officer. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2017. He holds a certification as a school resource officer. Sergeant Eberly is also a long time high school and college basketball referee.

McManus, Francis A

Sergeant Frank McManusSpecial Enforcement Team Supervisor

Sergeant McManus joined the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2010 as a Police Service Aide [PSA]. He went to the Palm Beach County Police Academy, where he self-sponsored and graduated in 2009. In 2011, he was promoted to a Patrol Officer and joined Patrol Team 4, where he spent the next five years. In 2016, he was promoted to a Detective position on the Special Enforcement Team [SET]. In 2018, the department promoted him the rank of Sergeant. He helped supervise Patrol Team 1 until January of 2022, when he became the supervisor of SET. He is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Leadership Academy, and the FBI-LEEDA school for command leadership.

Captain Jenna Kriplean
Support Services Commander

Daughter of a US ARMY “Golden Knight”, she became an ENFORCER to her two younger siblings, growing up in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Jenna’s Public Safety service to the community of Coconut Creek began in 1997 as a Communications Operator. She held that position for four years while earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Florida Atlantic University. In 2001, she was hired a sworn Police Officer where she held the position as Field Training Officer before becoming a Detective in 2005. During her eleven year tenure as a Detective, she was awarded the Governor’s Award for Victims Rights (2012) and earned her Master’s Degree in Investigative Forensics from Nova Southeastern University. Jenna was promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and lead a Patrol Team for three years. Jenna was appointed to the Traffic Service Unit in March 2019. A little over a year later she made Lieutenant. She was promoted to the rank of Captain in the fall of 2022, the highest-ranking woman in the history of the department.

Lieutenant Dan Noordeloos
Support Services Lieutenant

Lieutenant Dan Noordeloos was hired as a police officer trainee in 2000 and after graduating from the 203rd Broward County Police Academy, served 8 years on patrol. In 2008, he was selected as a detective for the Special Enforcement Team and in 2012, was chosen to be a detective in the Criminal Investigations Section. Promoted to sergeant in 2014, he was assigned to patrol for 2 years and in 2016 was moved to supervise the Special Enforcement Team. In 2018, he was promoted to lieutenant and completed 2 years of patrol. In 2021, he was transferred to command the Criminal Investigations Section. In January, 2022, he transferred to Patrol Team 3 to lead that team. Then, in October of that same year he went over to the Support Services Division. He was a member of the SWAT team as an operator and team leader from 2007 – 2018. Lieutenant Noordeloos graduated from the 42nd Florida Leadership Academy and Southern Police Institute’s 86th Command Officer Development Course. He has an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Broward College and Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University.

Lieutenant Kevin Valade
Office of Professional Development and Excellence

Born in Niles, Michigan, Sergeant Kevin Valade came to South Florida in 1999 to seek employment in law enforcement after graduating from Ferris State University. He attended the police academy at Palm Beach State College in order to gain the necessary certifications to become a police officer in Florida. In October of 2000 he joined the Coconut Creek Police Department as a patrol officer. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant during the summer of 2016 and helped supervise Patrol Team 3. He joined the Office of Professional Development in August of 2019. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the fall of 2022, he now oversees the Office of Development and Excellence. He is a member of the department's SWAT Team. He was previously a member of the Special Enforcement Team, Bike Unit, and a Field Training Officer. He is a graduate of the Command Officers' Development School through the Southern Police Institute.

Captain Fred Shelton
Operations Division Commander

Captain Fred Shelton began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the City of Pompano Beach Police Department. After a brief stint, he was hired with the City of Coconut Creek Police Department in 1995 as a patrol officer, where he has served for the last 23 years. During his tenure with Coconut Creek Police Department, he has held the positions of patrol officer, bike patrol officer, DUI officer, Traffic Homicide Investigator, Motor officer, Aggressive Driving Enforcement officer, Road Patrol Sergeant, Road Patrol Lieutenant, and currently in charge of the Operations Division. Captain Shelton has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Barry University in Miami. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course, class of 75. He would like to leave you with this leadership quote:

“In 1942, General Patton took command of the Desert Training Center. Upon his arrival, all officers and enlisted men stood for inspection. Patton advised them that everyone under his command would be required to run a mile in fifteen minutes carrying their rifle and full military pack.” He said, “We will start running from this point in exactly thirty minutes. I will lead.”

Lieutenant Henry Cabrera is a 24-year veteran of the Coconut Creek Police Department. During his tenure with the agency, Lt. Cabrera has served as a patrol officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer and a Special Victims Detective. After being promoted to Sergeant, he was assigned to the Patrol Division, supervisor of the  Community Involvement Unit, assigned as an Administrative Sergeant, and as the department’s (PIO) Public Information Officer.

Lt. Cabrera holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida and a B.A in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University. Henry is a certified accreditation assessor through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. He currently serves as a Patrol Division Commander on day shift.

Patrol Team 2 Supervisor


Lieutenant Darren Karp has been a law enforcement officer since 1993. He started his career with the North Miami Beach Police Department as a reserve police officer. During his tenure with the Coconut Creek Police Department he has held the positions of patrol officer, field training officer, bicycle patrol officer, detective, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team operator, Patrol Sergeant,  and Traffic Sergeant. Darren was transferred to the Sergeant of Traffic Unit in October of 2016 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in early 2019. Lieutenant Karp is a graduate of the Southern Police Institutes 73rd Command Officer Development School.

Lieutenant Ryan Marken has been with the Coconut Creek Police Department since 1997. During his tenure, he was assigned to the Patrol Division and the Traffic Unit where he served as a traffic homicide investigator for nine years. He currently oversees Patrol Team 3, one of our day patrol teams. Lieutenant Marken is a graduate of the Southern Police Institutes 75th Command Officer Development School.

Lieutenant Brandi DeVecchhio began her career in law enforcement in 1998 with the City of Coral Springs as a Police Service Aide. In 2001, she was sworn in as a law enforcement officer with Coconut Creek Police Department.  During her tenure, she was a Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, and Crime Prevention Liaison. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on March 8, 2012 and assigned to the Patrol Division. She is a proud member of the Coconut Creek Honor Guard and supervises the Homeless Education Assessment Resource Team (HEART). She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the fall of 2018.

Fuentes, Frank A

Lieutenant Frank Fuentes
Criminal Investigations Section Supervisor

Born in Bronx, New York, Lieutenant Fuentes is a graduate of Florida International University with a degree in public administration.

His career in law enforcement started in July 2005 when he was hired as a Financial Crime Investigator (non-sworn) with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), investigating Public Assistance Fraud. In December 2007, he was promoted to a sworn police officer with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a Special Agent. He joined the City of Coconut Creek in February 2010 as a road patrol officer. In November 2010, he made the SWAT team. In December of 2012, he was promoted to Detective. In March 2016, he was promoted to the supervisory role of Road Patrol Sergeant, where he managed and mentored a unit of ten officers. On December 2016, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant (current role), where he supervised criminal investigations (CID), Background Investigations, Crime Scene Unit (CSU), Crime Analyst, and Victim Advocate. In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant following the retirement of Lieutenant Shawn Shelton. He has a three-year-old daughter, Catalina Amelia.

McKinney, Cody

Detective Sergeant John McKinney obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colby College (Waterville, ME) in 2011 and his Master of Science in Counterterrorism and National Security Affairs from Nova Southeastern University (Davie, FL) in 2019.  He began his career in law enforcement with the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2013 as a patrol officer.  In 2016, he was selected as a field training officer and also joined the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.  Since joining the SWAT team, he has held the positions of operator, sniper, assistant team leader, and team leader (current).  In 2017, he was promoted to Detective with the department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET), where he served for four years.  In 2021, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Patrol Team 3. In January of 2022, he was selected to be one of two Detective Sergeants in the Criminal Investigations Section.

Detective Sergeant Jason Kohlhorst has been a law enforcement officer since January of 1998. He started his career with Coconut Creek as a Public Safety Officer certified as both a firefighter and a police officer. During his tenure with the Coconut Creek Police Department, he served primarily with the road patrol division for twenty-three years. During his time on road patrol, Jason was a patrol bicycle officer and a field training officer (FTO) for nearly thirteen years; training more than fifty new officers. Jason was promoted in June of 2015 to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to a road patrol team. He was selected as a detective sergeant in January of 2021 where he currently serves.
